Over 300 species of birds have been sighted in and around Royal Tree Lodge, at peak season. Our summer from October to March is the best time with both Palaearctic and Intra-African migrants. Keen birders should be able to see at least 50 – 70 species in a day and have the opportunity to add new species to the lodge’s bird sighting list. The record thus far is 130 species in a 24 hour period!

More Info

Royal Tree Lodge has a full-time partnership with the nonprofit work of the locally based NGO, Love Botswana. This local trust operates more than 20 community-based programs for children, youth and adults. Visiting or volunteering at Love Botswana's many community-based programs in Maun has created some of the most meaningful opportunities for those who have visited or volunteered.

With a staff of over 65, including 15 social workers and social work aides, there is something for everyone to do, even families! Whether a few hours, a day, or more, visiting Love Botswana is a way to give back to the community, crowning your Safari experience with the best part of Botswana- the people and culture.

To be clear – this is not a “show and tell” experience, but rather an opportunity to share in the rich culture that is Botswana and link with the heart of the Nation through the people.

Many of the people we work with represent the families who work in the safari industry to create the magical experience for those coming on Safari from around the world. We provide support to them while their loved ones are away for months at a time.
